U.S. Senator Robert Byrd Dies at 92; longest-serving member of Congress
West Virginia Senator Robert Byrd, who hold a political record as the longest-serving member of Congress has passed away early Monday morning (June 28). He was 92 years old. He was hospitalized since last week after suffering from heat exhaustion and severe dehydration.
Byrd served his constituents for over 50 years and he is well known for steering federal dollars to West Virginia.
He once wrote on his autobiography, “it has been my constant desire to improve the lives of the people who have sent me to Washington time and time again.”
“I lost no opportunity,” he added, “to promote funding for programs and projects of benefit to the people back home.”
