Zenani Mandela, Nelson’s Great Granddaughter Killed in Car Crash
The great-granddaughter of former South African president Nelson Mandela was killed on the historic opening day of the 2010 FIFA World Cup. 13 year-old Zenani Mandela died in a deadly single-car crash.
Zenani was on her way home to Soweto after attending a World Cup concert in Johannesburg at the Orlando Stadium. Unnamed male driver has been arrested in connection with the fatal accident and initial report stated that the driver "was drunk."
Zenani had just celebrated her 13th birthday yesterday on June 9th. She was one of Nelson’s nine great-grandchildren.
The 91 year-old leader will not attend the opening ceremonies of the World Cup due to Zenani’s death.
