DOH confirmed Influenza A (H1N1) case in the Philippines; victimvis a 10 year-old girl

The bad news that many Filipinos doesn't want to hear, the epidemic "Influenza A (H1N1) virus has now reached the Philippines" but this news is now a reality.

Philippine Department of Health (DOH) Secretary Francisco Duque announced the first case of Influenza A (H1N1) in the Philippines, Thursday evening.

The virus carrier is a 10 year-old girl who just arrived in the Philippines last May 18 after a trip from United States and Canada.

Tested positive for the H1N1 virus, she had symptoms of fever, cough which is now gone but still suffering sore throat -according to DOH.

Duque said, the patient is now being quarantined currently being treated at an undisclosed medical facility.

The government is now tracing individuals who might have come into contact with the young girl and the passengers in the plane were the girl boarded.

The World Health Organization confirmed that there are now 11,034 cases including 85 deaths.
